" Michelle Pellizon and Gierre Godley move naturalistically, and thus they command our attention from the start. Godley's sudden end is perfectly timed, and if we have questions at this point, we are ready to see more."

"... The Polarity, danced by Gierre Godley and Dillon Honiker, all I can say is WOW!!!! Showstopper. They both dance with power and masculinity; it is refreshing."

Artistic Statement
My work is a direct reflection of me as a dancer, a scientist, and a man. Fused with influences from the dancers, I seek to show dancers as limitless humans with real emotions and reactions. I enjoy the beauty of familiar vocabulary as well as quirky movement, which is developed through improvisations. In my eyes not all dance has to be esthetically pleasing and at the same time not all dance as to be emotionally and energetically draining. I see my role as a choreographer not as one that attempts to make you love my work rather I hope my work leaves you feeling something and wanting more!

Teaching Statement
My class explores every aspect of the layers that make a dancer. I specifically design each class to cater to the needs of the individual students. We start with an opening breathing exercise to allow the dancers to connect to the floor, the space around them, and their own bodies. Within the class, the dancers are encouraged to explore rhythm, dynamics, energy, and focus. I believe this individual exploration allows the dancer to practice his or her own creative artistry while maintaining certain set parameters. Steps range from very technical vocabulary to a more relaxed pedestrian movement. Special attention is paid to how the dancers relate their movement to the musical choices of the accompanist. If an accompanist is not present, I select a variety of musical compositions that both help the dancers connect with the music, as well as challenge their musicality. My goal is to help my students understand how technique is there to aid their dancing, not be a crutch limiting their artistic growth. The class is ultimately a fun and casual, yet demanding experience that will leave the dancer sweating from doing what they love to do, dance!
